2018 International Tuition Fees in Australia

The 2018 results are in! 

 

For the fourth consecutive year, Studymove has developed a report which enables institutions to benchmark their programs against current 2018 international student tuition fees for undergraduate, postgraduate and Study Abroad programs from all Australian universities and by all the major fields of study.

 

Using fee information published on each university website, Studymove analysed fee information for 4,677 programs in 2018. 

 

We are excited to share some interesting results from our analysis:

 

1. Overall, fees increased by 6.2% in 2018 for UG & PG programs.

On average across all universities, the annual international tuition fee for international students in 2018 is 6.2% more than 2017.This compares with an average 4.9% increment reported in 2017.

In 2018, ten universities increased their average annual fees between 0% and 3%, twelve between 3% and 6%, seven between 7% and 9% and nine between 10% and 17%.

The increase in the average annual international tuition fee is once again higher than the forecast inflation rate of 2%-3%.

 

2. Fees increased in all areas of study. 

On average across all universities, the annual international tuition fee for international students in 2018 is higher than 2017 in all fields of study for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The lowest increment reported this year is 2.8% for programs in Natural and Physical Sciences. Only programs in Education (6.6%), Management and Commerce (6.8%) and Health (9.3%) reported increments above the average. Other fields of study reported increments between 4% and 6% in 2018.

 

3. Fees for UG programs rose by 5.5%. 

On average, the annual international tuition fee for an undergraduate program in 2018 is $30,840 (compared with $29,235 in 2017 and $28,064 in 2016). In comparing 2017 and 2018 fees, this represents an increase of $1,602 (5.5% more) for the average annual tuition fee for undergraduate programs compared to 2017.

4. Fees for PG programs rose by 5.1% 

On average, the annual international tuition fee for a postgraduate program in 2018 is $31,596 (compared with $30,064 in 2017 and $28,381 in 2016). In comparing 2017 and 2018 fees, this represents an increase of $1,532 (5.1% more) for the average annual tuition fee for postgraduate programs.

5. SA fees remain stable 

On average, the cost of a study abroad program for 6 months in 2018 is $10,235 (compared with $10,143 in 2017 and $9,872 in 2016) In comparing 2017 and 2018 fees, this represents an increase of $92 (0.9% more) for the average annual tuition fee for study abroad programs.
